This Lovely November

#GIVINGTUESDAY: SCC & ARTS AT THE ARMORY (that’s us!)

The Somerville Community Corporation (SCC) has been serving residents in our community for 46 years!  SCC is a membership organization, serving over 1,500 people each year. SCC provides leadership in sustaining Somerville as a vibrant, diverse, and tolerant community. They offer services and lead community organizing the supports low- and moderate-income Somerville residents in their efforts to achieve economic sustainability and increase civic engagement.

 

SCC is a GivingTuesday Somerville: GiveLocal 2015 partner organization! $500 supports a low-income individual in a 6-week intensive financial education class, including individual counseling.

Arts at the Armory is a community arts and cultural center, right in the middle of Highland Ave’s ‘Hot Block’! We host a broad range of arts and cultural programming, such as art, theatre, music, poetry, community events, non profit galas, visual arts exhibits, children’s programming, and much more. We also offer arts educational arts programs for all ages, with a particular focus on programs for local Somerville youth.

Support this week’s #GivingTuesdaySomerville feature organization Arts at The Armory today! Just $100 covers the cost of a free public art event in the Cafe!

How can we help our kids become healthy, productive, and responsible people?
The Somerville Boys & Girls Club at the Arthur D. Healey School provides education, prevention and recreation programs after-school for more than 100 Somerville youth ages 6 to 14 Monday through Friday. Membership dues for any child are no more than $30 per year in order to be accessible to our community’s most vulnerable children and families.

SCATV: Another reason why Somerville is awesome!

#GivingTuesday partner SCATV operates Channel 3 in Somerville. It is the oldest access center in Massachusetts (since 1983) and boasts the longest running access program in the world (since 1972), “Dead Air Live.” SCATV also operates an Internet radio station called Boston Free Radio, and serves the community through production of PSA’s, news programming, and coverage of community events, meetings, and political forums.

In addition to its programming, SCATV provides multiple platforms for other community-oriented groups! They offer free meeting space for community groups, post messages on their bulletin board, provide video training and mentoring, offer access to high quality digital equipment and facilities, and operate an art gallery for local artists.
