Seeking a Volunteer Gallery Coordinator

We are seeking a volunteer Gallery Coordinator to assist in coordinating with artists, and in mounting and promoting exhibitions in our Cafe space. Although we aren’t able to host exhibition opening events at this time, we are looking to continue to host and promote galley shows in our Cafe space. Our current show of Pauline Lim’s work will be wrapping soon, and we’re looking for someone who is knowledgeable about visual arts to assist us in planning our next show, and all shows to come.

The Gallery Coordinator will assist us in doing outreach within the artist community to build a schedule of gallery shows for our space. This individual will coordinate with artists on hanging and displaying their work in our space, build a calendar of exhibitions for the year, and assist in promoting these shows. The Gallery Coordinator will work with the Executive Director and Operations Manager to ensure that shows fit the goals of The Center for the Arts at the Armory, and maintain high standards while being community-oriented and representative of our diverse artist community.

We are looking to work with your schedule to make the position fit, and the hours are not set. You may be heavily involved while handling the transition between shows, and then have very little or no hours of work while the show is up and running. You will have the opportunity to bring your tastes and knowledge to the table in helping build the schedule, and will be given the opportunity to be creative in the displaying of work.

To apply, email us at [email protected] with your qualifications and a bit about yourself. Click here for more information about exhibitions at the Cafe.

Red Fire Farm Delivers Organic, Local and Seasonal Produce to ROOTED Every Wednesday!

ROOTED Armory Cafe & Farmstand features organic, local produce from Red Fire Farm, a farm located in Granby, MA that also participates in our Somerville Winter Farmers Market. This week we received acorn squash, brussel sprouts and sweet potatoes as new items, complementing other Red Fire produce we’ve been ordering on a weekly basis including red slicing tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, parsley and mixed potatoes, as well as seasonal favorites like butternut and spaghetti squash that we also have in stock right now. Don’t miss out on this local, healthy and beautiful early fall harvest!

Blue Ribbon Recipient of the Month: Phil Cunningham

We’re excited to share that Phil Cunningham is our Blue Ribbon Recipient of the Month. The Blue Ribbon recognizes a staff member, volunteer or intern who has demonstrated great dedication and outstanding performance at Arts at the Armory.

Launching ROOTED has been a team effort but frankly there would be no ROOTED without Phil. Since the start of his volunteer service with Arts at the Armory, Phil has been with us at every turn of improving our financial processes, navigating the financial waters of COVID, and more. His work on the backend of our point of sale system for ROOTED has been indispensable. Thank you and congratulations Phil!

Though Phil was born in NYC, Massachusetts has been home for most of his life. He moved to Cambridge about 5 years ago after working for Refugee NGO in the Middle East and East Africa. For the last 5 years he worked at Harvard in finance and is now doing some volunteer work as he looks for a new position.
