#GivingTuesday: Somerville Homeless Coalition & Door2Door Transportation

SOMERVILLE HOMESLESS COALITION:

The Somerville Homeless Coalition (SHC) helps meet the needs of homeless and near homeless individuals and families by operating two shelters, providing case management and supportive services to obtain and maintain permanent housing, prevention services, and a food pantry and meals program. Help them carry out this incredible mission with a donation to ‪#‎GivingTuesday‬ Somerville.

DOOR2DOOR TRANSPORTATION:

SCM Community Transportation provides vital services to over 300 Somerville residents each year. Door2Door.SCM promotes the independence of seniors and people with disabilities through community-based transportation. #GivingTuesday Somerville: GiveLocal 2015

Support Local Nonprofits!

So what is GivingTuesday?

GivingTuesday is the first Tuesday in December (this year that’s December 1!), and it is an annual global day of giving that helps to raise funds and awareness for important causes everywhere. In Somerville, 14 nonprofit organizations are joining forces to collaborate on a second-annual joint fundraising effort as part of the international GivingTuesday program.

GivingTuesday is more than just a single-day event. Leading up to December 1, each partner organization will be featured for a week by all collaborators.

Our goal is to raise $50,000 for the participating nonprofit community of Somerville. Funds are shared equally among participants. Help us get there!

Checks can be made out to Groundwork Somerville at 24 Park Street # 7, Somerville, MA 02143.

Please put GivingTuesday Somerville in the memo line. Online giving coming soon. #giveLocal

The effort culminates in a big fabulous celebration on GivingTuesday, and anyone who contributes to the fundraising effort is invited! This year’s event will take place at the Arts at the Armory on December 1st. Save the date!

Youth Arts Arise Fall Term Now Enrolling

We’re gearing up for this fall’s session of Youth Arts Arise, our FREE arts education program for students ages 11 to 19.  This is a FREE after school opportunity to explore  creativity in a wide range of artistic mediums.  Did we mention it’s FREE? Workshop themes encourage positive self-expression by means of exploring a multitude of cultures and traditions, embracing diversity while simultaneously working towards a better understanding of  individual identity.
The fall session will run Tuesdays from 3:30pm-5pm,  October 6th through December 8th.  Registration is OPEN for the semester.  Fill out the YAAFall2015RegistrationForm (or pick one up in person at 191 Highland Ave., Suite 1C, Somerville, MA).  Participants can sign up for Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or both.

Questions? Email education@artsatthearmory.org and we’ll be happy to help!

Big thanks to The Boston Foundation for supporting Youth Arts Arise through a Vision Fund grant!
