Songwriters in the Round at the Armory on July 20! Host David Thorne Scott will be swapping songs with Paul Hansen of Grownup Noise and Honest Mechanik, Adam Gautille from the Vintage Vocal Quartet, and roots belter Laura Vecchione. Paul is a former Somerville resident, and as swiss-army-knife guitar slinger. Laura is a warm performer with a voice that really draws you in close. Adam is an incredibly versatile performer who not only sings but plays trumpet with ensembles including the Boston Pops. And Somerville resident and Berklee prof David Thorne Scott writes and performs in jazz and Americana styles.

Wednesday, July 20, 7pm, $10.

Basketball player turned guitarist, turned philosophy major, turned songwriter Paul Hansen has been playing on the Boston scene since 2005. Along with multiple national tours, mostly DIY, Paul’s band, The Grownup Noise, has had several songs featured on MTV and popular Netflix shows and various independent films. He has a true love for song and his favorite style of music changes on a daily basis.

Rich, lush and full of emotion, Laura Vecchione’s voice evokes wide rivers of the south that seem far from her origins in New York and Boston. She has recorded three studio albums in Nashville, and worked with Grammy-award-winning producers and musicians. Her songs have received heavy rotation on the Americana charts and received TV placement in national television shows. In addition to performing, Laura is a sought after voice teacher in the Boston area and Assistant Professor of Voice at Berklee College of Music. “Laura Vecchione hails from New York, lives in Boston, and recorded her debut album in Nashville. Keep this quick bio handy to remind yourself that she’s not from Chicago, because Deeper Waters sounds a whole lot more South Side than Soho, Allston or Grand Ole Opry.” -Valley Advocate

Adam Gautille is a genre-hopping singer songwriter based in Boston whose music takes inspiration from Motown, R&B, Folk and Jazz. As a multi-instrumentalist, Adam loops trumpet, guitar, piano and singing to create a unique backdrop for his music.

Your host David Thorne Scott is a singer and songwriter in jazz and Americana styles. A 20-year resident of Somerville, he organized Songwriters in the Round to foster a creative, dynamic music scene for his adopted home city. He believes that music can bring a community together like nothing else. “At a time of great conflict in our country – when words often fail us – music has the power to bridge divides… David Thorne Scott explores the intersection of Jazz and Americana, city and country, instrumentation and lyrics to create lush compositions and covers that are unifying, and healing, in their beauty.” – Laurie Fanell, Eponymous Review

Four songwriters take the stage, seated in a comfortable semi-circle. They take turns playing songs, occasionally joining in with each other on harmony vocals or guitar licks. The format encourages conversation between the writers, which gives the audience an opportunity to hear these creative people talk as if in their own living rooms. Inspired by the “guitar pulls” of the legendary Bluebird Café in Nashville.

You might hear a young up-and-coming pro, an established mid-career performer and mentor, and a cherished elder of the scene — all sharing music. The growing relationships will warm your heart and enrich your soul. Come every week as the lineup shifts and new friends are made.

Hosted by Somerville singer/songwriter David Thorne Scott. Held on the first and third Wednesdays of each month from 7:00-8:30 p.m. Donations welcome.
