Songwriters in the Round

Songwriters in the Round

Wed. May. 18, 2022 at 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

1st & 3rd Wednesdays at ROOTED Cafe at 7 PM

Four songwriters take the stage, seated in a comfortable semi-circle. They take turns playing songs, occasionally joining in with each other on harmony vocals or guitar licks. The format encourages conversation between the writers, which gives the audience an opportunity to hear these creative people talk as if in their own living rooms. Inspired by the “guitar pulls” of the legendary Bluebird Café in Nashville.

You might hear a young up-and-coming pro, an established mid-career performer and mentor, and a cherished elder of the scene — all sharing music. The growing relationships will warm your heart and enrich your soul. Come every week as the lineup shifts and new friends are made.

Hosted by Somerville singer/songwriter David Thorne Scott. Held on the first and third Wednesdays of each month from 7:00-8:30 p.m. First event on April 6th with Eric Marcs, Emily Sangder and David Thorne Scott. Tickets are $10 at the door.

Part of the ROOTED Armory Café Series. Café menu is available here. Beer and wine also available!

Performer bios:

Catch Chris Peters at the Armory before he embarks on his east coast tour this summer! From playing shows and releasing music out of his hometown of Highland, Indiana, Chris quickly built a devoted fanbase. As a current graduate of Berklee College of Music in Boston, this singer-songwriter is spreading musical light in every new destination with his catchy and heart warming original songs.
Hayley Thompson-King is mezzo-soprano, composer/songwriter, and performing artist. Her work explores a broad range of sounds and vocalities drawn from Americana, psych, garage-rock, and art music. A classically trained vocalist, she has a Master’s of Music in Opera Performance from New England Conservatory of Music and a Bachelor’s of Music in Opera Performance from New York University. She currently resides in Boston, Massachusetts where she is an Associate Professor of Voice at Berklee College of Music. Hayley was a member of psychedelic rock group Major Stars from 2010 – 2016, appearing on the albums Decibels of Gratitude (Important Records) and Motion Set (Drag City). Her 2017 solo debut, Psychotic Melancholia was lauded as “an explosive display of vocal prowess” (PopMatters); “a poetic and measured critique of life as a woman in the 21st Century” (Noisey); and “a positively jaw-dropping exposition that celebrates the entire canon of rock ‘n’ roll’s energy, and should be considered an upping of the ante on the gritty sonic real estate of garage, punk, country, and Americana…” (Paste Magazine).
Emily Sangder is a 23 year old singer/songwriter from Eugene, Oregon, and a recent graduate of Berklee College of Music. She grew up performing in and around her hometown as both a solo artist and with multiple bands and duos. Her genre ranges anywhere from jazz to indie folk, and she has released multiple singles that you can listen to on all platforms, including her latest single “Enough” released on September 10th, 2021. To see more information on new releases and upcoming shows, please check out her website at www.emilysangder.com.

Rich, lush and full of emotion, Laura Vecchione‘s voice evokes wide rivers of the south that seem far from her origins in New York and Boston. She has recorded three studio albums in Nashville, and worked with Grammy-award-winning producers and musicians. Her songs have received heavy rotation on the Americana charts and received TV placement in national television shows. In addition to performing, Laura is a sought after voice teacher in the Boston area and Assistant Professor of Voice at Berklee College of Music. “Laura Vecchione hails from New York, lives in Boston, and recorded her debut album in Nashville. Keep this quick bio handy to remind yourself that she’s not from Chicago, because Deeper Waters sounds a whole lot more South Side than Soho, Allston or Grand Ole Opry.” -Valley Advocate
