Come and hear some serious heavyweight champs at Songwriters in the Round at the Center for Arts at the Armory.

Susan Cattaneo is a Boston area folk/rock/blues legend. Jonathan Feist is a songwriter, author and book publisher: a newcomer appearing at the Armory for the first time. Jimmy Kachulis has a long list of credits to his name as a songwriter including Emmy-winning TV shows, Disney films and Motown. And your host, Scarlet Keys, is a celebrated songwriter and teacher, host of the acclaimed “What’s In A Song” podcast — which is must-listen for songwriters — and author of the new memoir “What if it all goes right? Practicing hope in the hardest times.”

With her powerful voice, captivating melodies and finely-crafted lyrics, Susan Cattaneo is one of Boston’s most respected singer-songwriters. Combining vivid storytelling with a modern songwriter’s spin. Susan’s music blends folk, rock and blues with hint of country. She likes to call it, “New England Americana”. Susan’s latest album, All is Quiet charted #2 and was a top 25 Album of 2022 on the FAI Folk Radio chart. Susan won the CT Folk Festival and was nominated for Singer Songwriter of the Year at the 2022 Boston Music Awards. She has been a finalist or winner in the country’s most prestigious songwriting and music contests including being a three-time Kerrville New Folk finalist. www.susancattaneo.com

Jonathan Feist is a songwriter, author, and music book publisher. Since 1998, he has been at Berklee College of music, serving as editor in chief of Berklee Press, and an instructor in the online school. He is the founder of the Gloucester Songwriters Circle and a volunteer at the Windhover Center for Performing Arts. Jimmy Kachulis is a composer, songwriter, and conductor with a long list of credits. His songs have appeared in Emmy-Award-winning TV shows, Disney films, and Motown records. His concert work has been featured in international composition competitions including Red Cedar Chamber commission, TUTTI Festival, North/South Consonance, In Memoriam Morton Feldman. He has been a musical director and guitarist with John Lewis (MJQ), Jon Hendricks, George Coleman, and Martha Reeves. He is also a performer in early music. Your host this week is Scarlet Keys, Professor of songwriting at Berklee College of Music. Some of her students include Charlie Puth, Betty Who, Charlie Worsham, Liz Longley, Ingrid Andress, Lizzy McAlpine, Corook and Laufey. Scarlet is an award winning songwriter. Her songs have been recorded by artists spanning genres from Americana, jazz, country, pop, and folk. Her song “Caged Bird” was released on the Consenses CD with James Taylor, Carly Simon, and Jimmy Buffett. Scarlet has worked and written with Chris Stapleton, Charlie Puth, Melissa Ferrick, Blue Miller (India Arie), and Denny Hemingson (Tim McGraw). Author of “The Craft of Songwriting: Music, Meaning and Emotion,” and “What is it All Goes Right: Practicing Hope in the Hardest Times”. Scarlet also hosts the podcast What’s in a Song, and is a TEDx speaker.
