Smallest Town Ensemble (Headline)

From the heart of Inman Square, Matt Bowker (“Mount Peru” trumpeter and keyboardist) has launched a charm offensive of lush arrangements and gorgeous harmonies, at the intersection of old-school song craft and contemporary musical currents, where the Crosswalk Cowboy is always up early, lending a hand to guide people through the kaleidoscopic landscape of this vibrant little city.

Joined by Belfast singer/songwriter/producer Colin Campbell, along with Thom Valicenti (Guitar), Nate Hagee (Bass), and Rick Rosa (Drums), The Smallest Town Ensemble takes its inspiration from the City of Somerville, where a patchwork of townies, hipsters, Irish bars, and one way streets has begotten the throbbing neighborhood vitality that serves as the grist for the band’s songs.

Brian Varneke at Deli Magazine has praised The Smallest Town Ensemble’s debut EP, ‘Out East’, as a “love letter to the Somerville, MA, community… (that) weaves through a multitude of genres, creating a beautiful and poignant tapestry”.

Morning Is Rising (Opener)

Morning Is Rising are a Somerville/Providence based band comprised of Chloe Green (formerly of “Hemway”, vocals & bass) and Iarla O’Halloran (formerly of “Mount Peru” and “Master & Dog”, vocals and guitar).

The band was formed during the first wave of the Covid pandemic in 2020 when friends Chloe and Iarla in finding they had run out of ways to hang out outdoors, decided as a last resort to try playing music in a Somerville back yard, singing close vocal harmonies at a safe distance. It worked!

At turns smoky, jaunty, and joyful, the band plays a mix of co-written originals, highlights from their respective back catalogues and curated covers, delivering vocal-driven roots music with powerful harmonies.
