Arts at the Armory Spotlight Series Presents David Wax Museum

Thu. May. 04, 2023 at 7:00 pm

Indie folk husband-wife duo bring their eclectic “Mexo-Americana” band to Somerville, MA!

David Wax and Suz Slezak of David Wax Museum are touring with their full ensemble in support of an exuberant new album, You Must Change Your Life.

Produced by Dan Molad (Lucius), these technicolor tracks capture—then transcend—bedrock elements of the band’s 15-year recording career with ancient, ever-relevant rhythms of traditional Mexican music, mixed with amber pop hues emanating from an AM radio circa 1975, and unabashed rock riffs—all united with interlacing, seductive harmonies.

Co-fronted by multi-instrumentalist Slezak with her raucous accordion and sublime fiddling, along with the unstoppable energy of Wax, the band’s on-stage charisma is both captivating and intimate. Since their early debut as a buzz band at the revered Newport Folk Festival, David Wax Museum has reached through TV and across radio airwaves, transmitting their dynamism on CBS: This Morning, Tiny Desk Concert and World Cafe. The band has soundtracked love stories on and off screens, from the Netflix #1 show Firefly Lane to the wedding of Chasten and Pete Buttigieg.

Doors at 7:00PM; show at 8:00PM. The opener will be Boston-based artist Kaiti Jones! Get your tickets here.
