Vlada Brofman (voice/guitar) will perform Russian songs set to poems by Silver Age and Russian singer-songwriter songs; featuring Max Guselschikov (formerly of the legendary Russian rock band Krematorij) on violin.

Born and raised in Moscow, Russia, Vlada Brofman has spent the second part of her life in the US, mostly on the East coast. Fully fluent in English, Russian, and French, she appears equally at home in different musical traditions: world music, jazz, French chanson, and the lyric-centered vision of singer-songwriters… Her primary training in acting (with a Moscow theatre director Semen Rivkin) has been complemented by jazz voice lessons with Berklee-educated voice teachers.

A versatile vocalist and guitarist, Vlada has a “voice of verve and sass” (Shauna Erlbaum, thenoise-boston.com) and projects an utmost attention to the delivery of lyrics and a magnetic charisma. Her interpretations of songs are always sensitive and filled with drama. Each song comes alive with a new persona, giving the listener “a sensation of being at a feast, or witnessing a minor wonder, of which you should remember every second” (Aleksey Kartashov).

A protean performer, Vlada “transforms before our very eyes, into sultry and cunning Orlandina; then, a fickle Frenchwoman, whose love lasts for only one dance; then, ethereal Amalia before whom a young soldier is kneeling… Vlada’s voice turns your head and entices, tempts and teases, grieves and confides in you” (Slava Gerovich). Turning every song into a mini-play, she also shows great tastefulness in repertoire choices, reimagining well-known songs and, more recently, performing her originals in Russian and English.
