Longy’s Instrumental Studies department presents Orchestra I.S.

Looking to the past to create a present, a future.

Orchestra I.S. presents Recall, a program investigating the relationships between the lived experiences and the subsequent musical creations by composers. Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 4, inspired by his work as a student with Josef Haydn and Felix Mendelssohn’s Die Hebriden, written after an 1829 journey to the Scottish coast, will be paired with new pieces for orchestra by seven Longy composers. Join us at the Performance Hall at Somerville’s Arts at the Armory for this innovative program.

G Rockwell Band

G Rockwell Band is coming to the ROOTED Café at Arts at the Armory.

An award winning multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, composer and bandleader, G Rockwell has performed and competed on stages across the country. He is the only musician to have won three Freshgrass competition awards.

A virtuosic and diverse player on three instruments, G has toured as guitar player with Jacob Jolliff Band, sat in as banjo player with the jam-band Mountain Grass unit and performed as mandolin soloist, backed by a classical chamber orchestra.

While having roots in Bluegrass, G’s unique style of Americana has modern and world music influences from Celtic fiddle music to Middle Eastern folk tunes, weaving with the traditions of American folk and Old Time.
