Isabel Frey (Vienna) and Sarah Larsson (Minneapolis) are troubadours in a new tradition of Yiddish songwriting and folksinging. Both rooted in a deep background in folk harmony singing, the two have separately spent years studying Yiddish language and folksong tradition, and now present an evening of music highlighting traditional music as well as music in their own unique voices. They appear in Boston together for one night only!
Sarah Larsson (Minneapolis) is a member of The Nightingale Trio, which has appeared on “A Prairie Home Companion” and toured nationally since 2013. Drawing from deep roots of vocal folk music from Eastern Europe and North America, Larsson infuses her interpretations of traditional music with a harmony sensibility rooted in and liberated from years as a classical choral singer. Sarah’s new solo project further unspools the line of folk tradition, merging original song with rich textures and vocal harmony from the Balkans, Yiddish, and Americana tradition.
