The Fourth Wall Ensemble Presents: Fruit Flies Like a Banana

The Fourth Wall is back in Somerville after a 50-show run in Edinburgh, Scotland!

Time flies like an arrow…Fruit flies like a banana!

The performers of The Fourth Wall don’t know what that means either, but they thought it would be an appropriately nonsensical title for a variety show that breaks all the rules of a proper musical performance.

The Fourth Wall has spent the past decade delighting Fringe Festival audiences around the world with their one-of-a-kind variety show “Fruit Flies Like a Banana.” They perform the music of Chopin while riding hoverboards, Satie while hanging upside down, Joplin on plastic tubes, and tangos while executing precision footwork. Each act in the program is unique, performed in an order selected by the audience, resulting in a fast-paced thrill ride with surprises around every turn.

This program is supported in part by a grant from the Somerville Arts Council, a local agency supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council. Thanks to that support, tickets are pay-what-you-can with a suggested donation of $20. You can reserve a spot and read more about the show on this ticketing page.

Please note: We are asking our audience to bring proof of vaccination or a negative test as well as be masked when not eating or drinking.

“The remarkably inventive blend of music, dance and acrobatics delivered here by Boston’s The Fourth Wall is quite unlike anything else you’ll find at the Fringe, and it’s completely delightful.”

★★★★★ CBC Manitoba

“It’s part symphony, part modern dance, part game show and part comedy. It all adds up to a wholly charming entertainment.”

★★★★★ Winnipeg Free Press

“Serious music by seriously talented musicians in a show that doesn’t take itself seriously at all.”
