Join Us This June

Happy June!  It may be a little damp and cool outside, but things are hoppin’ in here.  Be sure to check out all of our upcoming events, both in the Performance Hall and in the cafe.  We’ve got everything from comedy to music to plants — yes, we said “plants” — to creative writing over the next week.  Don’t miss any of the action.

The Cafe is OPEN on Memorial Day

Memorial Day Weekend is almost here!  It wasn’t that long ago that it seemed as if winter would never end, but we’ve made it to this celebratory weekend that means “Summer Preview” — YES!!  Many of you may have the day off from work — why not come check out our cafe?  We have artisan sammies and fresh baked treats not to mention a delightful selection of bevvies ranging from coffee and tea and smoothies to beer and wine.  Don’t forget the (daily) free parking!

We’re open our regular hours — 8am-6pm — this Memorial Day. Check out the menu here.

In addition to the cafe being an excellent gathering place for you and your friends, it is also a show venue.  This Memorial Day, the cafe is thrilled to host four rising singer-songwriters, Jake Shane, Jack Dean, Ian Fitzgerald, and John Faraone, swapping songs in the Round.  These two New Englanders, a Nashvillian and a Brit all have unique styles which fit loosely into the Americana genre.  The show runs from 7pm-9:30pm.  Come early for a delicious craft beer and snack!

Join us Friday, May 8th for our Soundproofing Benefit Concert

Was our last blog post really in March?  My how time flies when you’re having fun! But right now we really want to make sure you are all aware of the fun coming up this Friday, May 8th!  That is the night we are kicking off our fundraising effort to soundproof the performance hall.

As you can see by our ever-growing list of events, we are always doing our best to bring great programming to our stage both in the Hall and in the cafe, but we are somewhat limited in our offerings because we currently have restrictions on the decibel levels allowed.  By soundproofing the space, we will be able to dramatically expand our event offerings. This is where you come in…  By attending our Soundproofing Benefit Concert THIS FRIDAY (5/8), you will be helping us towards our goal.  Tickets are $15/$12 students and can be purchased at the door or in advance here.
We are so excited for this night of world music featuring Esthema, Goli, and 35th Parallel.  We know it will be a night to remember and a great first step towards achieving our soundproofing goal.

New Year’s Resolution 2015, and MLK Day

New Year’s Resolution 2015: Write something, ANYTHING, on this fancy blog that’s built into our site, so easy to use, and yet somehow intimidating because blogging isn’t one of those things we’ve done a lot of. We post to Facebook and Twitter all the time to highlight upcoming events, but we want the blog to be more than just another version of our events calendar.

So we’ll try to write meaningful pieces, to review cool events or give you some insight into key happenings or the behind-the-scenes ticking of an arts center. Maybe we’ll succeed and maybe we won’t. But at least you won’t still be looking at the “Welcome to our new website” message, months after the website has launched. Fingers crossed…

For this first post… Just sharing that resolution (to make it a little more real) and letting you know that yes, the Cafe is open regular hours on Monday for MLK Day. Stop in, escape the cold, and grab a bite or a drink.

Happy New Year, from Arts at the Armory.
