Volunteer and Internship Opportunities

We invite you to check out the list of positions below to get an idea of the areas in which we typically need help.  If you see something you’d like to help with or have another area of expertise to offer, please email [email protected] with your areas of interest and availability. Volunteer schedules will be arranged with a supervisor.

Internships are unpaid and include 10-15 hours per week with a mix of fixed and flexible hours.  Good customer service skills and the ability to work well on a team are essential!  A love of fun and funky arts/cultural/community events is a big plus. Volunteer Exhibitions Coordinator: We are seeking a volunteer Exhibitions Coordinator to start January 1, 2024 in a role that involves coordinating with local artists to mount and promote exhibitions in our ROOTED Café. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is seeking experience in art curation and gallery work. Support the Center for Arts at the Armory’s Finance Team, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliation, profit and loss statements, reporting, etc.  There may also be opportunities for more detailed data analysis and trend analysis.

Work directly with our Executive Director to support Development and fundraising efforts. More specifically, you will enter, track and acknowledge donations from individual donors using established spreadsheets and templates. Assist with preparing direct mail fundraising campaigns, and other administrative tasks related to a fundraising gala and more.

Event Management:
Support the Center for Arts at the Armory with planning and running events, from the initial inquiry from a prospective performer or organizer to running the event on the day.  Events can include arts, cultural, community, or private events in any of our spaces (Conference Room, Cafe, Mezzanine, and Hall). If you are interested in being involved in the actual events and not just the planning and administration, your schedule will vary from week to week, based on the run times of the events you’re working on, and will almost certainly include some evening and weekend hours each week.

Graphic Design:
Work with our team to develop visual media for a variety of great arts and cultural events hosted here at the Armory. There may also be opportunities to work on promotional materials for Arts at the Armory.

Arts Management:
Work closely with the Armory’s Executive Director, who oversees Development, Marketing, Finance, and HR. Be connected to all areas of this close-knit organization comprised of individuals who are passionate about the Center’s mission. Gain a wide-range of practical experience in the field of arts management, which will be relevant to future employment in the field. Possible projects include conducting grant research and development, assisting with fundraising campaigns, preparing budgets, and supporting Marketing. This work has to be done on-site in our offices but your schedule can be flexible.

Marketing & Promotion:
Support our team by helping to get the word out about our great events and services. Work within various platforms including social media, the website, e-newsletters, press releases, and other promotion activities.

Work with our team to keep our website up to date.  Be the glue that holds things together by channeling information and media provided by groups booking events and our most centralized point of information for the public–our website!

Support the scheduling, organization and oversight of monthly visual art exhibits in the Cafe and pop-up exhibits in the Mezzanine or Performance Hall spaces. Communicate with artists and make administrative arrangements as needed for hosting exhibits. Assist in the hanging and takedown processes. Be involved with exhibit openings and interacting with exhibit visitors.

Tech (Sound/Lights):
Performances couldn’t happen without tech! Support sound / lights / video projection for events in our Cafe, or assist with tech for larger events in our Hall space.

We have a long wishlist of IT-based projects, from improving our desktop environment to supporting our online ordering process. Tackle a few projects and make our operations smoother and more efficient!

Cafe Management:
Interested in food service as a career? Assist with inventory, ordering, food prep, food safety, and planning food and drink needs for various events. For this position, you should have an academic background and/or previous work experience with food service management.
