Class Description: The purpose of this class will be to explore the power of symmetry and build technical skills in pattern recognition and replication. We will explore multiple forms of symmetry and various methods of making symmetrical designs: hand-drawn, digital, painting, and cut and paste. Mandalas are a specific type of symmetrical drawing that we will investigate. We will learn both about the history and significance of mandalas and also how to create our own versions.
About the Instructor: Emma Leavitt is a local artist living in Somerville. She graduated from Tufts in 2014 with a degree in Sociology with concentrations in child development and studio art.
