Class Description: The purpose of this class will be to inspire and empower participants to keep a journal, something that is a crucial part of artistic and personal development. Students will be provided with a journal at the beginning of the class and expected to work in it throughout the whole week. Class time will be for group sharing/discussion of chosen entries and solo-work time in the journals with a variety of new materials. The aim will be to provide a safe space for kids to explore this personal medium and also to encourage a practice of mindfulness and introspection. The students will be encouraged to reflect on themes from past workshops in these sessions as a way to tie their ideas and artwork from various classes together.
About the Instructor: Emma Leavitt is a local artist living in Somerville. She graduated from Tufts in 2014 with a degree in Sociology with concentrations in child development and studio art.
This program is supported in part by the Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC).
