Class Description: This project will be a collaborative effort between Somerville youth ages 11-16 and seniors in the community. The plan is to create a mural of eyes and values of the participants and their community.
Participants will be divided into pairs of one youth and one senior. Collectively as a group, we will discuss what it means to be part of a community, specifically in Somerville, and talk about values we hold. On the blocks of wood, the individuals of a pair will sketch and then paint their half of the wood with an image of their eye. The pair will then discuss and agree on a word or value they hold close to themselves personally and write that word underneath their pair of eyes; they would then combine the values and tell a story through the values. The composition of all of the wood blocks into a mural represents wholeness and unity throughout the community.
The project will take place in the afternoons of Mon. Aug 28 – Thu. Aug 3; participants should be available for all sessions.
