Class Description: The subject matter? Beautiful, You! Or make a special masterpiece together with your friend. Focus on skin tone, proportions, textures, and smooth colorful blends. Head, neck, and shoulders. Fill up the page with your lovely expression. The background design should illustrate your story. Explore different mediums and canvases. Wood, mirrors, colored pencils, acrylics, pastels, and found objects. Choose the light source and darkness of the shadows. Flashlights, or direct lighting from an arm lamp. Use a mirror to capture your portrait(s). NO photographs. This will allow you to make a better thought out decisions and allow you to see yourself in whatever angle you need. Fill up the canvas.

About the Instructor: From an early age, Annette R. McCarty discovered her freedom in drawing, painting, and rag doll making. In 1992, Annette graduated with a BFA from Westfield State University. That same year, she began her art education career as an Art Teacher in the Boston Public School District. Before 2004, Annette’s dedication to studying art education helped her to receive an M.A. Ed, an M. Ed, and an M.S. Ed. Annette also has three teaching certifications from the state of Massachusetts. Her certifications are Art Education K-5, Art Education 6-12, and Special Education K-5. Through her career, Annette continuously exhibited her artwork at museums and art festivals. Annette is a retired Department Chair and Professor of Art. Currently, she is the CEO of The Annette McCarty Art Studio, LLC.
