Date(s) - Fri. Jun. 23, 2017
7:30 pm - 10:30 pm
Are you ready for another Spark?! BIDA is stoked/thrilled/so jazzed to welcome you back, Friday June 23rd, to the Somerville Armory, at 191 Highland Ave, Somerville MA.
Marvelous Mary Wesley will call some groovin dances to a Special Live-Techno-Pop-Mashup night! Tunes by Sean Oshima (vocals, cajon), Jamie Oshima (vocals, guitar, keyboards, drums, computer) and Julie Vallimont (computer, keyboards, synths, accordion, vocals). Yeah, for real.
The music will be a mashup of techno beats, fiddle tunes, pop song covers, Sean and Jamie’s original songs, weird synth noises, and whatever else happens in the moment. All live!
The dance will run from 7:30-10:30 pm. If you are new to contra dancing, come a little early and ask to join in a beginner workshop at 7:15 🙂
This is a special contra dance with live electronic-acoustic music and club lighting (glowy clothes are fun!). As always, BIDA is an inclusive community and everyone is welcome.
The Somerville Armory is a beautiful, airconditioned (!) space with a balcony and cafe that houses the Center for the Arts, and a weekly farmer’s market, and a bunch of other great community events. We love it here! It is a 15 minute walk from Davis Square on the Red Line, and several buslines run by it. There is a bike rack, and a free parking lot (!!) and overflow spaces also available, deets:
We highly encourage public transit and carpooling — feel free to start a carpool thread in the comments below!
Admission will be $7 – $15 sliding scale. If you are interested in volunteering and getting in for free and making this whole thing possible, we always need lots of hands to get the extra sparkle ready for Spark. Stay tuned for a volunteer post!
