About the Skillshare: March might be blustery for garden planting but it is prime time for garden planning! If you are a seasoned gardener, seed catalogs have arrived on your stoop and you are starting to obsess over them. If you are feeling aspirational about gardening this class would be a great way to get started as an herb gardener. Herbs are one of the easiest categories of plants to grow, in most cases, especially if you are gardening in containers, a brand new garden in a yard or a community garden plot. In many cases herbs don’t take much room or too frequent care but offer lots of rewards. We will also introduce more unusual medicinal plants that will wow your friends and neighbors and beautify any place you plant them. For the experienced gardener, we will throw down some medicinal gardening challenges. The skill share will include a presentation to get you familiar with a number of medicinal plants and some of their basic growth requirements; ie. which are practical for containers and other conditions and a period of time at the end in which we will share an assortment of medicinal herb seeds that you can take home with you to start growing or planning for.

About the facilitator: Heather has been teaching herbal classes for over a decade. She has recently moved from Vermont where she grew and gathered her medicinal plants for her herbal extract business, Giving Tree Botanicals. She also appreciates small and container gardening. Last year she began gardening in the Fenway Victory Garden with her partner. She worked for several years at Vermont’s largest garden center in the nursery and enjoys sharing knowledge of medicinal plants.
