Play Like a Girl is a book about the founding story of the Kibera Girls Soccer Academy (KGSA), a free high school for girls in the Kibera settlement/slum of Nairobi, Kenya. KGSA started out a soccer program to get girls from the slums off of the streets and into something productive. Over the years, it has grown from a soccer team, to a one-room school with thirteen students, to a full-fledged high school serving 130 girls each year. The KGSA Foundation was started to provide financial and technical assistance to the school.
This August, to celebrate the release of Play Like a Girl, the KGSA Foundation is bringing KGSA’s director, Richard Teka, and alumna Asha Jaffar, to the US. We would love if you could join us for a book reading and fundraiser to support the Kibera Girls Soccer Academy at the Somerville Armory Cafe!
