About the Class: Throughout India, it is thought that the new moon and full moon are especially auspicious times for reflection—a time of contemplation on both our inner nature, as well as our interaction with the natural world. To honor this tradition, on the Sunday closest to each new moon this fall, the Arts at the Armory in collaboration with Emily Murphy Kaur & Harmeet Singh will hold space for a monthly special event: New Moon Gong Meditation with Mantra.
This experience will include:
• Settling the body to bring awareness to the breath;
• Pranayama to deepen the breath;
• Mantra meditation to focus the mind;
• A reflective exercise to cultivate positive habits and align our inner experience with the external world; and finally a deeply relaxing gong bath to close out the night.
About the Facilitators:
Emily Murphy Kaur is an educator and writer with a passion for helping people and systems realize their potential. In her recent book, she documents how the process of change relies on advancing our awareness of both our internal and external world and then acting in-line with this newfound understanding—a key to any type of transformation. Emily is an alumnus is O2 Teacher Training; has five months of Ashtanga training under the Jois family in Mysore, India; and is a current student of Ayurvedic Health.
Harmeet Singh began practicing yoga at a shala in Mumbai, India where the guru was strict, classes were free, and guidance was given in a very direct manner to all students. This attitude and space cultivated transformation, and gave Harmeet a solid foundation allowing him to build a career as a Director of Innovation, helping companies think out of the box, and tap the inner potential of their employees.Harmeet holds 400-hrs of yoga teacher training, both from O2 Yoga and KYB. He is currently a student practicing under the Jois family in Mysore, India.
