“You have to figure if a song has hung around for a couple hundred years, it’s got something going for it,” says Matt DeBlass, Wisconsin based singer and multi-instrumentalist. Though his repertoire covers a wide range of styles and sources, including popular modern pieces and his own compositions, Matt’s roots have always been in traditional folk song.
With a big baritone voice and a physical presence to match, Matt is equally at home belting out a classic drinking song or crooning a sad old ballad, and swaps fluently through a small arsenal of instruments, including guitar, Celtic harp and mandolin.
His most recent project is a collection of murder ballads and tragic romance songs called “Dead Lovers,” which was recorded “live in the studio” in his current hometown of Madison.
