Boston’s clarinet and violin duo, Box Not Found, and the new vocal duo, Peridot, team up to present a double-billed performance featuring some of the latest work by the two ensembles.
Box Not Found will be presenting their new program, Box Not Found: Stories, which is focused on the impact that particular stories have on the growth and creativity of each one of us. They have commissioned two composers, Ariel Friedman, and Ian Wiese, to each write a piece inspired by a story that has had a significant impact on their individual lives. Violinist Natalie Calma will also present a set of her own poetry, as well as a solo work by Edith Canat de Chizy.
Peridot’s program will feature works by Meredith Monk, Kaija Saariaho, and a new work by Dan Reifsteck. Both works by Monk and Saariaho revolve around a state of mind – the Saariaho in particular is about having a nightmare, with one voice acting as the human, and the other personifying the nightmare itself (though both singers sing the same text, but in different ways), and the Monk employs a form of call and responses in a programmatic atmosphere evoking the northern landscape, or, the north as a state of mind. Dan’s piece challenges the linear ways of thought to reflect how scattered and layered (and generally complicated) one’s mind and emotions can be.
All proceeds collected by the ensembles for this performance will be donated to the Boston-based organization, Chica Project. For more information on this organization and ways you can support, check out their website: https://chicaproject.org/
