Balboa Crash Course 1a for Beginners!

Map Unavailable

Date(s) - Sat. Jan. 12, 2019
12:30 pm - 5:00 pm

In one afternoon, the Intro to Balboa Crash Course is an introduction to the dance and will cover the basic figures and connection techniques of Balboa, and give you the skills you need to dance Balboa socially. The Crash Course is intended for students with previous swing dance experience, but beginners up for a challenge are welcome too! (It’s also a great way to review your fundamentals if you’ve learned Balboa in the past but feel a little rusty.)

Join Nelle & July for four hours of content, with a break in the middle around 2-3pm! Class content is the same as our 4-week Intro to Balboa Fundamentals 1a beginner series.

No partner necessary, because we switch partners often in class. Bring a pair of shoes with slightly slick soles to change into for dancing; suede or leather are best, but anything without much tread will do.

About Nelle:
Nelle was introduced to her love of Balboa in the Spring of 2006. During her early years as a Balboa dancer living in a follow-heavy dance scene, she became frustrated with standing on the sidelines while great music was going to waste. She decided to take a chance on leading in 2008 and has never looked back! She has spent quality time in the classroom as a leader within multiple levels including masters tracks at Balboa Rendezvous and EBC. Nelle has competed as a lead at Eastern Balboa Championships, and won the All Balboa Weekend Gal Bal contest as a lead two years in a row partnered with Kelly Arsenault and Annabel Quisao. Spending time on the role of leading has provided Nelle with another approach to finding balance within all aspects of the dance.

Nelle has also continued following throughout the years, and that has gone pretty well too!

About July:
July is an unrepentant nerd who loves science fiction, food, lindy hop and Balboa, not necessarily in that order. She started dancing around 2000, went to her first exchange in 2001, and has never looked back. She came to swing dancing late in life, without athleticism or dance experience, and hopes that she can use that experience to her students’ benefit as a teacher. She founded Boston Balboa in 2010 with her husband Stan to build a local Balboa community so they could dance Balboa with more people at home.
