Class Description: During this workshop, participants will be listening to age-appropriate songs and focus on the rhythm of the existing lyrics first, before discovering poetry of their own when listening to instrumental versions of these songs. We will discuss rhyme, pattern, and beat through active listening to stressed and unstressed syllables within the lyrics. The words will be read aloud by the students, who will also be able to utilize percussive instruments to follow the rhythmic patterns. There will be discussion of how all of these items contribute to understanding the lyrics.
