Class Description: This is a fun and interactive Storytelling workshop! Participants will first work on enhancing their expressivity through non-vocal theater games, where we emphasize gesture and movement. Next, we will begin to incorporate words and sound effects into our story development, as we learn and re-tell the Japanese folktale of “Chuko the Marvelous Mouse.” Older participants will have the chance to analyze plot element, narrative arc and character development in our folktale, with the goal of reframing it in a contemporary setting. By the end of the workshop, participants will be ready to share their own collaborative performance.
About the Facilitator: Doria Hughes is a storyteller and teacher, co-founder of Massmouth, ReadBoston Corps Teller, In-house Storyteller at Porter Square Books, founder of the Adult Folktale Telling Series.
