Class Description: In the workshop, we will combine poetry and the visual arts to create written and visual poems unique to each writer. We will write poems inspired by surreal photographs, tabloid titles and a wacky bowl of words. Along the way we’ll discuss the elements of poetry: simile, metaphor, personification, rhyme, and rhythm. Students will also work with crayons, oil pastels and paints to create a “visual poem,” working in the visual medium to recreate the imagery, color and mood to match their written work.
